KERN COUNTY ASTRONOMY DAY
You might be interested in Kern County
Astronomy Day, coming up Saturday, April 12th. The event is hosted by
the new Houchin blood bank out on Bolthouse Drive. It starts at 10:00
am. The keynote speaker is Dr. Alex Phillipenko, the Berkeley astronomy
prof you've seen on numerous astro TV programs. He will speak at 1:00
pm, and seating is limited. For more information, go to kernastro.org.
Here's little map to help you find the new Houchin facility, which is a couple of miles south of Stockdale Highway on Buena Vista Road.
Here's a picture of our friend Tim Elam, retired geologist and member of the Board of Directors of the Buena Vista Museum of Natural History
in downtown Bakersfield. At our February meeting, Tim gave us a
presentation about his experience as a Park Service Naturalist at Crater Lake, Oregon.
Tim gives a talk about some topic relating to geology on the first
Saturday of every month, October through May, at Buena Vista. Tim is an
articulate, warm and engaging speaker. Below I'll list the dates and
topics for his upcoming presentations.
